Congratulations to Nayanika Mathur who has been promoted to full professor in the University's Recognition of Distinction exercise 2022.
Professor Mathur is the author of two books – the award-wining ‘Paper Tiger: Law, Bureaucracy, and the Developmental State in Himalayan India’ (Cambridge University Press 2016) and the recently published ‘Crooked Cats: Beastly Encounters in the Anthropocene’ (University of Chicago Press 2021, HarperCollins India 2022). She has published articles in leading international journals including American Ethnologist, Modern Asian Studies, the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Political and Legal Anthropology Review (PoLAR) and has co-edited two books and two journal special issues. At Oxford, Professor Mathur is Co-Director of a research network on the climate crisis at TORCH. She has been elected a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton, USA over the academic year 2022-23.
