Faraha Nawaz

Dr Faraha Nawaz is an Associate Professor of the department of Public Administration, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. She holds Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Social Science degrees in Public Administration from the same University. She obtained first class with first position in both honours and master level. Her standing first in Social Science faculty won her the University Grant Commission (UGC) scholarship from Bangladesh Government in 2010. She has been awarded PhD degree from Flinders University of South Australia in 2015.

Since beginning her academic career, she has devoted herself to undertaking wide-ranging research in social science in general and gender issues in particular.  Her research interests are on gender equality, poverty, human rights, social justice, gender-based violence, women's empowerment, women’s in labour market and household economy, NGOs in development, public policy analysis and governance issues. Faraha's research focus is predominately based on South Asia. Currently she is working on a book entitled “Microfinance and Women’s Empowerment: Unpacking the Unheard Narratives” to be published from Palgrave Macmillan UK. She has published a number of academic papers in reputed national and international journals and book chapters in edited books (http://farahanawaz.weebly.com/publications.html).

An active member of a number of international professional groups and networks such as NAPSIPAG, ISTR, EROPA, NZSAC, Dev Net, IPPA and AWID, Dr. Nawaz has participated and presented her research papers in various international conferences. She is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards including gold medals, Charles Wallace award, Dev net Research award from New Zealand, Malaysian scholarly award, Australian Government scholarship etc. She was an international fellow of Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Brown University, USA in 2017, before coming to CSASP as an academic visitor in January 2018.
