Dr. Lion König is a DFG-Postdoctoral Research Fellow at St. Antony’s College, and a Research Associate of CSASP, OSGA, at the University of Oxford. Prior to joining Oxford he taught at Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Lion König is an Associate Researcher at the South Asia Institute, Department of Political Science, and at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Asia and Europe in a Global Context’, both Heidelberg University. He studied political science and English literature and linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and at Heidelberg University, where he completed his doctoral work on the concept of ‘cultural citizenship’ in India in 2013.
Lion König has held research fellowships at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) in 2011, as well as at the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS), and at the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities (CSH), all in New Delhi, in 2014.
His areas of interest include political theory, interdisciplinary- and area studies, as well as nation-building, identity, cultural politics and political iconography in the Indian and the larger South Asian context.
