Funding for MSc in Modern South Asian Studies, MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies and OSGA DPhil

Applicants to the MSc in Modern South Asian Studies and the MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies are often eligible for a number of University wide Scholarships, and you are strongly encouraged to explore these funding opportunities. We do recommend that you complete a full search of all opportunities available at the link above but we have also highlighted a few options here.

The earlier that you start thinking about scholarships and completing your applications (where separate applications are required) the better, and it is important to remember that many scholarships will require your application to the course to be submitted for the January deadline at the latest.

Indira Gandhi Scholarships

Oxford Indira Gandhi-Radhakrishnan Scholarship

This is a full one-year scholarship (fees and maintenance) for the MSc in Modern South Asian Studies jointly funded by the Oxford-Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme and the Radhakrishnan Memorial Fund. The holder of the scholarship must be ordinarily resident in India and not in receipt of a full scholarship from any other source. Applications should be made through the usual channel for the OIG scholarships (see the University website for details).

The Charles Wallace India Trust

Doctoral Training Partnership - Full Studentship for Masters through to DPhil studies.

Departmental Awards: CSAS has a small pot of funding available to support students in need on the MSc and MPhil Modern South Asian Studies. This funding is awarded at the department's discretion to eligible offer holders and is intended to help bridge a funding shortfall where a student might otherwise be unable to attend the course. The department will advise applicants if they are being considered for this funding.

Small grants in support of fieldwork or other research in India are available from various funds, e.g. the Radhakrishnan Memorial Bequest. For details, see the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies website: https://www.orinst.ox.ac.uk/article/funding
