OSGA Annual Lecture "The politics of development: Sri Lanka and beyond"

Doors open at 16:30

We are honoured to welcome Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, as our speaker to the OSGA Annual Lecture on 19 May 2026. Join us as the Prime Minister will speak about the development, governance and politics of Sri Lanka and reflect on what this experience teaches us about the politics of development more generally. The lecture will also dive deeper into the political context and the challenges of sustaining dynamic reform in complex contexts. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is the current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, having taken office on September 24, 2024, and was reappointed in November 2024. She is the third woman to hold this position in Sri Lanka . A member of the National People's Power (NPP) party, she is a sociologist, activist, and university lecturer. Her lecture will thus be influenced by her political career but also by her academic experience.
