Film Screening: The Monsoon Oracle
The Contemporary South Asian Studies Programme is delighted to invite you to a screening of Shrenik Rao's acclaimed documentary 'The Monsoon Oracle'. The film explores the religious traditions performed in anticipation of the monsoons in India, focusing on the Bonalu festival in Telangana. A contrast of tradition and modernity, the film looks at the role that oracles and rituals play in emotionally facilitating the monsoon season in to the hot and dry city of Hyderabad - also a booming IT capital. The film deals with themes of religion, caste and gender.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director, Shrenik Rao. All are welcome.
