Dr Cyril Fouillet - Workshop: Microfinance and Environment: British Council: Nov 10 - Feb 11

The British Council and Wallonie Bruxelles International/Fonds de la Recherce Scientifique (WBI/FNRS) have awarded a grant-in-aid (PPS WS02) towards the cost of a workshop on "Microfinance and Environment: Formal and Informal Financing of Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation". The workshop took place from 9 to 10 December 2010 at the University of Oxford (Wolfson College). This workshop embarked upon on an ambitious research project on Microfinance and Environment. While there is a large body of literature on Ecosystem Services, little research has been done to assess its valuation and formal and informal financing. The learning workshop participants examined theoretical perspectives adn case studies of the economics of ecosystem services which attempt to renew the links between environment and finance.
