Associate Professorship in the Anthropology of South Asia
SCHOOL OF INTERDISCIPLINARY AREA STUDIES and the SCHOOL OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND MUSEUM ETHNOGRAPHY in association with Wolfson College
Grade 10a: From £45,562 p.a.
We are seeking to appoint a permanent Associate Professor in the Anthropology of South Asia, to be held in the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS) and School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME), in association with a Non-Tutorial Fellowship at Wolfson College under arrangements described in the further particulars.
The successful candidate will be a scholar who has experience in and enthusiasm for the advanced study of the Anthropology of South Asia, you will be expected to teach and supervise at the graduate level, in particular teaching on the MSc and MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies; contribute to the teaching of both generic qualitative research methods topics (e.g. interviewing, ethnography) and classes that apply these topics to the study of South Asia. You will have broad research and teaching interests across the region of South Asia situating the region in its global context. The candidate should be familiar with and committed to Area Studies as an intellectual enterprise. You will have received a doctorate in Anthropology or a closely related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate: research achievement and publications in the Anthropology of South Asia at an international level appropriate to the stage of his or her career and the skills and experience of teaching in the Anthropology of South Asia at the postgraduate level, including thesis supervision and also academic administration; specialist knowledge of anthropological theory and method; experience of long-term ethnographic fieldwork. As well as experience of collaborative teaching, research and conference organisation across academic disciplines and linked to regions outside South Asia.
